Roundwood Framing
Although there are many species suitable for working into roundwood lumber, the local Eastern Red Cedar (ERC) is considered an invasive nuisance to both ranchers and prairie restoration efforts throughout the Great Plains. We collaborate with those wishing to remove it from their lands and harvest/prepare them for use in small diameter framing. These are then used to make simple frames for small structures such as garden sheds and chicken coops. Structural grading of self harvested lumber is difficult in Nebraska as the nearest graders as several states away. The wood we harvest locally is currently limited to use in small structures that do not require structural drawings. We are working with local municipalities on these dilemmas with an eye towards making this resource more accessible for use into the future.
